Thursday 5 November 2026 The independent guide to bank holidays in the United Kingdom Dates checked against GOV.UK

About UK Bank Holidays

UK Bank Holidays is an independent guide to the bank holidays of England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. We are not part of the UK government and not affiliated with GOV.UK. The official list is published by the UK government at GOV.UK; we take those dates and add what the official list does not: the differences between the regions, the rules behind each date, past and future years, and tools to plan around them.

What you will find here

  • The next bank holiday for each region, with a countdown.
  • Full lists for each year, with the substitute days explained.
  • A page for each major holiday, with its date rule and history.
  • A working days calculator and a leave planner.

Who writes it

Kevin Schmitz is the editor and publisher of UK Bank Holidays. He runs KS Logistics & Marketing, an online marketing company based in the Netherlands, which operates this site.

Kevin compiles the dates and rules on this site from primary sources: the GOV.UK bank holidays data, legislation published on legislation.gov.uk, royal proclamations from the Privy Council Office, announcements by the UK and devolved governments, and the banks’ own holiday notices. He updates pages when those sources change. He is not a lawyer, banker or financial adviser; the site explains published bank holiday dates and rules and does not give legal, employment or financial advice. You can reach him at staff@ukbankholidays.uk.

How we choose sources and correct mistakes is set out in our editorial policy, and where the dates come from is explained in our methodology.

How the site is funded

The site is free to use. We plan to fund it with advertising from Google AdSense. Advertising never decides which dates or rules we publish. Details are on our advertising page.
