Seen region by region, the spread is narrower. England and Wales use only five months in 2027: January, March (Easter), May, August and December. Scotland adds November for St Andrew’s Day, and Northern Ireland adds July for the Battle of the Boyne. Below are the bank holidays by month for this year and next, with the rule that fixes each date.
Bank holidays by month: which months have none?
February, September and October have no regular bank holiday in any UK region. June has none either, apart from one-off days. April depends on the date of Easter, and November depends on whether St Andrew’s Day falls on a weekday.

Frequently asked questions
Which month has the most bank holidays?
It depends on the year and region. In 2027, March has the most in Northern Ireland (three), while May and December have two each in every region.
Do bank holidays have to be given as paid days off?
No. GOV.UK says employers do not have to give paid leave on bank holidays, and they may count them towards the statutory 5.6 weeks of annual leave. Your contract sets out what applies to you.
