The GOV.UK dates for 2028 show no June bank holiday either. When June has had one, it was a one-off: the Platinum Jubilee weekend in 2022, and Scotland’s World Cup bank holiday in 2026.
Why is there no regular June bank holiday?
None of the bank holidays in the Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971 falls in June. The spring bank holiday is the last Monday in May, so it can come as late as 31 May but never in June under the normal rule. The next regular bank holiday after it is in July in Northern Ireland and in August in the rest of the UK.

- World Cup bank holidayMon 15 Jun
2022, all regions: for the Platinum Jubilee, the spring bank holiday moved from the end of May to Thursday 2 June 2022, and an extra Platinum Jubilee bank holiday followed on Friday 3 June. That made a four-day weekend from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June across the UK.
2026, Scotland only: Monday 15 June 2026 was a one-off bank holiday in Scotland, approved by royal proclamation to mark Scotland’s first men’s World Cup finals since 1998. The Scottish Government pointed out that “there is no law requiring banks or any other businesses to close”. England, Wales and Northern Ireland had no bank holiday that day.
Could there be a June bank holiday in future?
Only as a one-off. Extra days have been added for national events, as in 2022 and 2026, and GOV.UK publishes them once they are confirmed. No June bank holiday has been announced for 2027 or 2028 at the time of checking. Until one is, the spring bank holiday at the end of May is the closest thing: four days of leave after Monday 31 May 2027 give nine days off, from Saturday 29 May to Sunday 6 June.
