May has only 19 working days in every region, the lowest monthly figure of 2027 (Scotland’s January ties with it), because of the early May bank holiday on 3 May and the spring bank holiday on 31 May. Easter falls early, with Good Friday on 26 March and Easter Monday on 29 March 2027, so March has 21 working days in England and Wales and 20 in Northern Ireland, where St Patrick’s Day is also in March. Scotland has 22, because Easter Monday is not a bank holiday there. April 2027 has no bank holiday anywhere in the UK, so it has 22 working days in every region.
How the regions differ in 2027
Scotland (252) has 2 January, moved to Monday 4 January 2027 because the 2nd is a Saturday, and St Andrew’s Day on Tuesday 30 November. It has no Easter Monday, and its summer bank holiday is on Monday 2 August instead of 30 August.
Northern Ireland (251) has the England and Wales list plus St Patrick’s Day on Wednesday 17 March and the Battle of the Boyne on Monday 12 July 2027.
England and Wales have the same total as in 2026, 253 days. Scotland gains one working day on 2026 because the one-off World Cup bank holiday does not repeat.
Planning with the 2027 totals
The totals are a calendar count, useful for budgets, pro-rata salaries or day rates. They do not include annual leave, part-time patterns or company closure days, and GOV.UK confirms that employers may count bank holidays towards the statutory annual leave. For a specific period, such as a notice period starting in January, use the working days calculator.
